The Opportunity
Newly created position due to growth and continuous national expansion offering the opportunity to lead Origination efforts and be the Senior Mortgage Banker for the California market. This company’s national presence and highly positive reputation will open up more lending opportunities for your clients as well as help to bring on new clients and grow your book of business.
 
Additionally, this financial institution’s uniquely collaborative process across business/product lines will allow you to readily collaborate with tenured Relationship Managers in your region that have deals seeking your debt products, and therefore, not only increase your annual production potential, but also the product suite you can offer your clients.
Utilize your extensive knowledge of Affordable Housing lending to structure creative financing solutions and continue to grow the team and platform through origination of long-term, multifamily loans on behalf of investors including Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, Affordable Housing, CMBS Partners, Life Companies, etc.
 
Scope of Responsibility
  • Partner with Regional Managers and Relationship Managers to strengthen existing relationships and identify new relationships to pursue with owners of real estate who need the debt products available through this permanent lending platform
  • Create and maintain relationships with a variety of clients and prospects throughout designated territory including for-profit and non-profit developers and housing authorities of all sizes and varying levels of sophistication
  • Represent this platform in the marketplace including attending and participating in industry conferences, speaking on panels, serving on community-based boards and committees, etc.
  • Demonstrate a consultative sales approach while implementing creative selling and innovative problem-solving techniques uniquely tailored for each client and maintain your own book of business
  • Co-manage portfolio of maturing loans and position company to provide the permanent financing
  • Proactively provide refinancing alternatives to existing customers
  • Help create and implement exit strategies
  • Exemplify strong product knowledge to clients and prospects while showcasing the company’s full product capabilities and the ability to utilize those capabilities to meet the client’s specific business needs
  • Actively help this platform meet both on-balance-sheet efforts and off-balance-sheet efforts
  • Develop and maintain long-term relationships with appropriate clients of the Community Development platform, both investor and borrower clients, and interact in a clear and professional manner that protects and deepens trust and the relationship
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and procedures, including without limitation, acting professionally at all times, conducting business ethically, avoiding conflicts of interest, and acting in the best interests of this company
 
Ideal Background/Skill Set:
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of experience in LIHTC and Affordable Housing permanent lending with a successful track record of loan production
  • Well-versed and experienced with Fannie Mae DUS, Multifamily Affordable Housing, Freddie Mac Targeted Affordable Housing, and HUD
  • Established track record of originating at least $100M in annual production with any of the loan products highlighted above
  • Knowledge and expertise with federal and local affordable housing programs including IRS Section 42 4% and 9% LIHTC programs, real estate tax abatements, TIF financings, CDBG loans, HOME Loans, Section 8 programs, and other local affordable housing programs and other non-traditional investment products and programs
  • Ability to structure permanent loans and appropriately assess and minimize risks typically presented by the applicable program
  • Maintain strong and current knowledge of the markets that you cover with regard to both commercial real estate as well as overall economics with the ability to counsel borrowers, investors and management with regard to the markets they cover
  • Strong sales and marketing skills with specific experience in negotiating the loan products mentioned
  • Team player and motivated self-starter with an entrepreneurial approach
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong quantitative and financial analysis skills with the ability to review and evaluate borrower financial statements to include portfolio analysis and projections based upon borrower financial strength and both current as well as projected market conditions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and strong negotiation skills
  • Proficient in spreadsheet and word processing software
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel frequently
